Commemorating a Dark Day: August 6th the U.S. Opened Pandora's Box
August 6th is the 63rd anniversary of the day that an American atom bomb destroyed Hiroshima, Japan in an instant. It's a day for somber reflection, but also an opportunity to look forward and insist that our leaders take concrete steps to eliminate the nuclear threat.

Nuclear Disarmament Movement is 3 for 3 and Gearing up for Round 4
Efforts to de-legitimize nuclear weapons over the past eight years have produced a clean sweep for the disarmament community. After the elimination of the 'bunker buster' the war hawks moved onto 'mini nukes'; 'small', 'portable', and radioactive devices. We defeated those disturbing ideas and moved ahead to confront Bush’s final act, the 'Reliable Replacement Warhead' (RRW) – and we won again.

Crumbling Axis – Lessons from the Bush Administration?
Do you remember the 2002 State of the Union address? In it Bush outlined his "axis of evil": Iraq, Iran, and North Korea. Bush contends that his puppet government has control of Iraq and earlier this month he removed North Korea from the list as well. The axis has crumbled down to one state which the Bush administration still refuses to engage – Iran. In his speech Bush claimed, "This can be a moment of opportunity for North Korea." We believe the same is true for the U.S. – now we have an opportunity to shift our tactics with Iran based on the success of diplomacy in North Korea. ENTIRE ARTICLE

Organizing for Change & Lobbying for Peace
At the Peace Action National Congress two weeks ago activists from all over the country converged on Washington, D.C. to learn from one another, set a path for Peace Action's work over the next 2 years and speak out in Congress against war, occupation and nuclear weapons.

Program Priorities for Nuclear Abolition
Peace Action's 2009-10 program priorities will embark on an aggressive campaign promoting our positive, proactive agenda for disarmament. Now because of the push by former U.S. Secretaries of State and foreign policy elite of both parties for abolishing nuclear weapons, we have a major opportunity for dramatic steps toward our goal.
