What changed about military recruits in 2005?
In just released analysis, the National Priorities Project answers that question: low and middle-income neighborhoods became more over-represented in Army recruiting. Wealthy neighborhoods became more under-represented.
You can search by ZIP code, county, or state and find out where recruits are coming from by going to the NPP Database. You can check out the research findings here. You can also compare 2005 recruiting data with the 2004 info.
- Military recruiting costs $4 billion per year;
- The Navy had the highest percentage of minorities in 2005;
- Arkansas, Texas and Wisconsin had the largest increases in Army recruits per thousand youth.
